Abstract
A reversed-phase ion pair liquid chromatography method is developed to determine the total amount of EDTA in plant nutrient solutions. In this method, Fe(III) is used as a complex-forming metal with EDTA, and Tetrabutylamonium Bromide (ion-pairing agent) is used in the sodium acetate buffer pH 4.5 as a mobile phase. Ultraviolet detector was applied at 254 nm. The method is fast, 10 min per sample with a linear calibration curve within the range of 10 to 100 mM (correlation coefficient 0.999) . Applications to analysis of EDTA in wheat plant nutrient solutions. The study of the efficiency of EDTA in wheat plants 1 2 grown in hydroponic systems was carried out. After five weeks of analysis, a decrease in the amount of EDTA was observed.
