Abstract

The purpose of the study is to examine the predictability of social-emotional learning activity factors on attendance rates, positive behavior outcomes, and negative behavior outcomes among high school at-risk students. Specifically, this study was concerned with the predictable relationship between SEL activity factors on home visits, club participation, and mentoring on the attendance rate and number of positive behavioral and negative behavioral outcomes among at-risk high school students.

A predictive correlational research design was employed in this study. This type of research design examines the predictable relationship between two or more independent variables and one criterion (dependent) variable).

The findings of this study highlight the varying effectiveness of different SEL interventions on attendance and behavioral outcomes among at-risk high school students. Club engagement and mentoring emerge as significant contributors to improved attendance rates, with club engagement having the most substantial impact. Home visits, while not significantly improving attendance, play a crucial role in enhancing positive behavioral outcomes and reducing negative behaviors. Mentoring also significantly reduces negative behaviors and shows potential for improving positive behaviors, though it requires further refinement to achieve statistical significance in positive outcomes. Club engagement, while effective in reducing negative behaviors, does not significantly enhance positive behaviors and may need reevaluation to improve its effectiveness. These results underscore the importance of a multifaceted approach, integrating home visits, club engagement, and mentoring programs to support the overall well-being and academic success of at-risk students.
