Abstract
This paper serves to inform and review some common causes of rejection, depression, and low self-esteem in young Black girls and present methods to overcome these issues. Through this paper, I could offer an academically toned essay on its effects with personal research and numerous facts from distinguished professionals; however, I believe that a personal anecdote backed by viable research presents a more valid and compelling argument on such a topic. A black butterfly commonly symbolizes change, transition, freedom, and rebirth. "The Beautiful Black Butterfly" will uniquely follow the stages of metamorphosis while comparing each stage to the life of a young Black girl struggling with the issues of rejection, depression, and low self-esteem. For those who are reading this paper that may be experiencing any of these struggles, I want them to know that they are not alone. Through this paper, I will be sharing my story and taking the reader through my journey towards emotional and spiritual freedom.
